Goya Custom Thruster 5 Pro Carbon

The new Goya Thruster 5 is becoming a real favourite at 2XS – it suits the south coast conditions and you have the real drivey fast feel about the board that doesnt fade as you are heading upwind!

Mark Perry has been using the new 26/27 Goya Custom Thruster 5  pro carbon – he tried our demo 86 litre and now has an 81 litre to add to his board collection. Ian Whitaker has an 86ltr and I am using the 86 litre too. The Goya Custom Thruster 5 is designed as a fast on shore wave board that rips in wave riding conditions, eats chop and gives you drive when you need it.   It has the hull shape of the Goya One, the outline of the quad and modified rocker and rail -shaped by KT and influenced by Adam Lewis.  Available in Pro Carbon and now in the lighterweight Haiku construction.

Mark Perrys comments on the Goya Custom Thruster 5:

“For context I’m 80kg and live on the South Coast of England. Conditions are typically on to cross onshore. Initially I tried the 86 Goya Thruster 5 in the summer when the waves were really small and thought it was excellent, I was on a 5m that day. It felt like plug and play with plenty of performance but not hard to sail at all. I felt however that for my weight and having a 95 Goya One as well for those summer days and slack waves, I would actually order the 81 Thruster 5 for the typical on/cross on winter days. I have now used it twice.

The first time was marginally powered up at West Wittering on a 4.5m where these pictures were taken. The sea state was quite confused that day with minimal waves and a cross on westerly wind which made for a great test day. It was lightening quick to accelerate for jumping and easy to control over the various lumps and bumps. I really felt like it made the most out of what was on offer.  Coming in too, it could be turned hard and tightly as and when a peak popped up. For relatively difficult sailing conditions and not loads of power that day it performed really well I felt.

I then sailed it at Jolliffe Road, East Wittering, WSW (cross on) and 4m weather. The sea state was more spaced out with head high waves at the time. What a weapon! So much speed off the beach, loads of easy projection in the jumps and riding both frontside and backside just felt excellent too.

For the south coast where there is current and invariably a relatively challenging sea state with white water and not always lots of space between the wavs, I couldn’t fault it. It can be enjoyed by all levels as well. As an intermediate sailor getting into waves it will definitely make life easier to progress and an advanced sailor too will certainly have a smile on their face! Dare I say it, it might also be very nice in moderate sized down the line but that will have to be feedback for another day! I’m really stoked with the purchase, roll on the winter storms! Big thanks to all the team at Goya”

Ian Whittaker comments on the Goya Custom Thruster 5:

“ I have had Goya Thrusters over a few different years the new Goya Thruster 5 gives me the extra speed and lift I need to get big back loops, this new board has more to it in wave riding both on shore and side shore, more grip, turns harder and feels more like the Quad on a wave face “
